In October, the US President announced the US intention to withdraw from the INF treaty, and over the next quarter the government proceeded to arrange no less than $1 billion in new missile contracts.
Boeing, Lockheed Martin and Raytheon were the biggest companies involved in these contracts in the three months following. See the chart below for an outline of the contracts made between the US Navy and companies that are also involved in the production key components for nuclear weapons. While it is not clear that all of these contracts will involve new nuclear weapon production, what is clear is that there is a new rush towards building more missiles that benefit a handful of US companies and intend to flood the market with missiles regardless of their range.
Company | Number of Contracts | Estimated Value (US Millions) |
BAE Systems | 7 | 47.7 |
Boeing | 4 | 244.7 |
Lockheed Martin | 36 | 267.6 |
Northrop Grumman | 14 | 2.7 |
Raytheon | 44 | 536.8 |
Thales | 1 | 16.2 |
